Guided Discovery Lesson Plan Analysis: Interacting Systems of the Human Body This lesson plan on interacting systems

of the human body is very strong because it thoroughly explains all components of the lesson: learning objectives, preparation, needed materials, motivation, learning activities, questioning, data processing, closure, assessment, and the rationale behind the work. This lesson even contains a note at the end addressing modifications for children with special needs. I really like how the lesson plan clearly explains how this instructional model calls for student-lead inquiry where the teacher acts as a guide. The aspects of this lesson that connected to the model are: content (interacting systems of the human body are concepts), planning (this lesson plan identifies the topic, specifies learning objectives, and gives examples), implementation (the introduction is the teacher jumping up and down to gain focus and relate the action to systems of the body), questioning (the open-ended phase, the convergent phase, and the closure phase) and assessment. In this lesson plan the teacher deviated in the examples and non-examples. The lesson plan only calls for examples of the body systems instead of using both examples and nonexamples. I think that this is appropriate for the lesson, because this lesson is geared for second grade students. However, if this lesson was written for older students then non-examples such as: individual organs, tissues, or cells could be used to bolster understanding of the concept. I really like this lesson plan, so the only thing that I would tweak would be the introduction. I think that it would be fun to also have the students jump up and down with the teacher to help get their attention and expend extra energy. I also think that having the students

exercise the body system being discussed (when possible) would help kinesthetic learners grasp the concept better.
