Unit 5s test will be on Thursday. Students should be able to find equivalent fractions, convert between fractions, decimals, and percents, convert mixed numbers to fractions, order and compare fractions, measure sectors in graphs, and construct a circle graph. The main purpose of Unit 5 is to review the meanings of fraction, decimal, and percent notations for numbers. We will practice turning fractions into decimals and percents, learn the properties of a bar and circle graph, construct bar and circle graphs.

This weeks reading skill is main idea and supporting details and the reading strategy is text structure. Students will reinforce skills in centers throughout the week. We will continue with literature circles. Sparrow Road and Zlatas Diary will meet Tuesday/ Thursday, and The Watsons go to Birmingham and The Journey of the Frog will meet on Wednesday/Friday. Students not meeting will complete activities practicing the weekly skills and strategies in centers.

Language arts:

The last stage before sailing for our colonies is to select their cargo and load their cargo. Students will have to think of the dangers and possible loss in making their choices for the long journey.
