The Salt Lake Community College has develop the E-Portfolio with the hopes it would use by students future employers as a place to go see the students College work of the potential employee. Anyone who enrolls at the Community college is expected to create an E-portfolio. It is a requirement for graduation. Many new students have actually never heard of it. The E-portfolio is an electronic portfolio that holds a summary of you academics and any extracurricular activities. It was created for students to share their best work, to reflect upon it and to share it with the faculty members. One of the major purposes of the E-portfolio is to showcase your best work. The Salt Lake Community Colleges hopes the students recognize the potential of the Eportfolio and create a second E-portfolio to showcase carrier oriented work. This is a fairly new concept but many colleges are starting to use it, even ones here in the valley The Westminster College is also using an E-portfolio for their students. The College claims the E-portfolio will be a great resource for anyone who wants to look in the students academic record. The argument here is is the E-portfolio useful? are employers looking at it when deciding to hire a new employee?

To find out how many employers if any employers have actually heard of the E-portfolio I contacted ten and asked are you familiar with the E-portfolio? Follow with do you use it to help u use it to help to help you select potential hires? All but one seemed to not know what was being asked. When Lisa T. the recruiter at the Marriot Hotel in Salt Lake was asked the question she reply with yes we use it verify this was an opportunity to ask her more about it she was unable to because she had to get return to work. Lisa was the only one who seemed familiar with Eportfolio but base on her answer Im not sure she actually knew what the E-portfolio was. Although most employers seem unaware of the E-portfolio many seemed interested out of the remaining nine, four were interested and I was able to explain to them what it was. After learning about the E-portfolio and its purpose I asked if giving the opportunity to study someones E-Portfolio would you use it? Monique for Occurrance reply yes, it would be very helpful and interesting to see what someone has accomplish in their College career and see their best work Kim B. reply was very similar to it and she seemed more interested on learning more about. On a personal note I was able to see the benefits of sharing my personal the E-portfolio with a potential employer. The link to my Electronic portfolio was attach with a warm welcoming note to the recruiter over an email informing him I was a current student at Salt Lake Community College and he was more than welcome to go and see for himself what my academic accomplishments and goals. He was surprise I had shared this with him and wishes more potential employees did.

This brings me to conclude the fact the E-portfolio is a fairly new concept and not very many are aware of it. I believe as time goes on it will earn some reputation and hopefully be use in a small way to select new hires at big firms. As of right now with it is unfair to say its useless or pointless. With how much technology is being used now days its only a matter of time until someone uses it to see it they are a good candidate for their firm.
