MODES OF THOUGHT- The Communication Language Of The Subconscious (modalities If you listen to what people are saying, youll

discover exactly how theyre processing their thoughts. There are three primary communication modalities that we should be aware of; Visual, Auditory,
inesthetic !VA"#$

%ome thin best in pictures !visual#, some in sounds !auditory#, and some process thoughts through our bodies ! inaesthetic#. &f course, we all switch from mode to mode; but most of us prefer one mode of processing over others. 'or example, if you want to sell a car to a visual person, youll need to focus on the overall effect of the design$ do they li e the colour( )o they li e the visual layout of the dashboard. If the person is auditory; youll focus on sound of the engine !for a sports car lover#, the *uality of the stereo, the *uiet inside the car, etc. And, for the inaesthetic person$ the comfort, the accessiblity of the functions, the feel of the steering wheel, and so on. The same applies to teaching and learning. 'or example, people in inaesthetic mode may not understand an explanation that paints a picture. +eople in auditory mode may appear to be staring out of the window all through your lesson, when what they are actually doing is paying you the courtesy of turning their best ear towards you. +eople who loo up in the air when you as them a *uestion are searching for a picture in their minds eye. +eople who loo down towards the hand they write with are chec ing out new information with their feelings. +eople who fidget in class are ,ust trying to get the information into their muscles. Visual people thin very fast - they need to eep up with their pictures; Auditories are slower at giving a response. "inaesthetic ta e the longest to give you an answer. !eo"le in #isual mode will say things li e$ .oo / If you see what I mean. 'rom my point of view. .ets get this into perspective. 0atch it/ +icture this. .oo here/ I cant see the point. %ee you soon. Theyre thin ing in pictures, and imagining that you are doing the same. Visual people tend to primarily thin in images. They loo upwards or straight ahead when they are thin ing. Visual people can often tal very fast, as they can have their 4visual4 thoughts very *uic ly. Visual people when as ed to thin of themselves on a beach will 4see4 themselves in their mind4s eye. Visual people tend to use, and relate best to, sentences with words related to sight, appearance, color and such li e !e.g. 5I see what you mean.5 or 50hat are you trying to show me(5#. They li e to see pictures and graphs.

Visuals understand what you say by what they see. Remember that these types of people turn words into pictures and images.
