The Renaissance Region

From My Heart to Yours
Where do I start? I was asked by Cathy to be featured in the Newsletter this week. My first thoughts were what do I say or what should I write about. Well I have decided to simply tell you all a little about myself, my life, and my Aflac journey thus far. Let me start by saying I am a bubbly country girl from the small town of Madison, NC. I am 1 of 4 children. I come from a large, loving, and close family. I have a passion for helping people, cooking, sewing, making jewelry, taking pictures, and probably anything creative that you could possibly think of. Cheri Olsen said it best: Ria, you are freakishly talented. I graduated from McMichael High School in 2008. Since high school, my life has truly been a journey. However, I feel as if I have just begun. Earlier this year, I graduated from cosmetology school. I am in the process of receiving my state license. I am also a current business administration major at North Carolina Central University. I plan to finish my degree and tie it with all of my future dreams and goals. Many of you may know, that aside of working for Aflac, I have worked at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store for the past 3 years.

Scherrias Spaces (Continued from Cover Story)

About three months ago, on August 21st, I came into the Regional Office for an overview with the infamous Mr. Mark Lee. I listened to him share ideas, facts, and dreams of a career with Aflac. Might I add that he does a wonderful job with his presentation and encouraging people to come on board. After the interview, Mark looked over my resume and we had a further discussion. I remember his exact words like yesterday. Are you always this happy and bubbly? I smiled and replied yes, or at least I try to be. He then followed up with Well Im impressed and youre dressed like a million bucks, you wear shoes that my wife likes and I want you to meet her. I then met the lovely Mrs. Cathy Lee. Of course I had to wear another fabulous pair of heels. I instantly felt the vibe that she was an amazing person that I would love to work with. I was then hired by Cathy and the rest was history. I started my Aflac journey on Monday, August 26th and I have not looked back since. Working side by side with Cathy and Mark has been nothing short of amazing. I have seen growth in myself as well as growth in our team as a region. I am blessed and honored to be a part of such an awesome family. From meeting each and everyone of you to being able to help you in anyway possible, I can honestly say I truly enjoy my job. A few weeks ago, I was able to go with a few other deserving team members to Atlanta and Columbus. I believe that was the icing on the cake, my favorite moment, and a constant reminder of why I do what I do. Being able to see where it all started and also visiting with the children of the cancer center will forever be a memory in my heart. I have enjoyed being your Admin every step of the way. Cathy often refers to me as the Heartbeat of the Region. You all couldnt imagine how much that means to me and how special that makes me feel. I feel that we are all one big body, working together to make sure thing continue to get better daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. With Cathy as our head, leading the way, Mark as our feet, standing by her side and helping us as well, myself as our heart, constantly pumping to keep us together, you guys are every other bone, artery, and muscle that helps our body function properly. My personal goal is to strive every day to be better than my best. I promised myself to never be average, which is the best of the worst and the worst of the best. My advice for you all as a team, is to continue to work hard, work together, and make this upcoming year one to truly remember. Always remember, if your dreams dont scare you, they are not big enough. Dream it, Believe It, and Do it. I promise to stick around and help you every step of the way.

District of the Week: Ben Mackey We would like to take the time out to congratulate our DSC Ben Mackey on an incredible , record breaking week. My big week was the product of an account that I have been working on for about 1 1/2 years. I have found that persistence truly pays off. Its about building relationships and following through. The more follow ups you have, the more will come through. Hard work, dedication, and persistence is the key to being successful
