Kosmos803(Russian:803meaning Cosmos803)wasasatellitewhichwasusedasa targetfortestsofantisatelliteweapons.Itwas launchedbytheSovietUnionin1976aspartofthe DnepropetrovskSputnikprogramme,[1]andused asatargetforKosmos804andKosmos814,as partoftheIstrebitelSputnikprogramme.[2] ItwaslaunchedaboardaKosmos3Mcarrier rocket,[3]fromSite132/2atthePlesetsk Cosmodrome.Thelaunchoccurredat13:00UTC on12February1976.[4] Kosmos803wasplacedintoalowEarthorbitwith aperigeeof505kilometres(314mi),anapogeeof 555kilometres(345mi),65.9degreesof inclination,andanorbitalperiodof95.2minutes.[1] Itwasusedforanondestructiveintercepttest,with bothKosmos804andKosmos814interceptingit beforedeorbitingthemselves.Asof2009,itisstill inorbit.[2][5] Kosmos803wasthesecondoftenLirasatellitesto belaunched,[1]ofwhichallbutthefirstwere successful.ItwasthefirstLirasatelliteto successfullyreachorbit.Lirawasderivedfromthe earlierDSP1Msatellite,whichitreplaced.
