Wind Ensemble Rehearsal Plan 1. Overall Goals and Objectives for the Rehearsal a.

To warm up the ensemble through playing a known chorale. b. To rehearse the chorale. c. To rehearse sections of Hallelujah Trombone. 2. Materials Needed a. Baton. b. Chorale Score. c. Hallelujah Trombone Score. 3. Detailed Procedural Steps a. Introduction i. Individual warm up b. Core Activities. i. Rehearse Chorale # 2 in Contemporary Chorales for about 5 minutes. 1. M. 1 11 a. Ask to hear first pitch at a mp. b. Need quarter notes and eighth notes brought out more. i. Specifically in woodwinds. c. M. 11 - Woodwinds need to start at a mf. 2. M. 11 end a. Woodwinds need to decrescendo together. i. Need to look specifically at dynamics. b. Students playing should be at a piano before the 4/4 measure. c. Play last note at a mp! 3. Hallelujah Trombone a. Start at M. 5 have students play through M. 25. b. Rehearse: c. M. 29-37 i. After everyone plays, just ask trombones to play their part. 1. Check balance and style. d. M. 37- 45 i. Ask students who has the following part: 1. Model through singing their part. 2. Flutes/Clarinets/Sax 1/ Trumpets/Baritones should raise their hands. a. Ask the students to chant the part back (after modeling). b. Look for accurate style and articulations (and rhythm). 3. Add in T. Sax/Trombone.

e. M. 45-50 i. Isolate parts 1. Model part/accents in Oboe/Sax 1/Trumpets/Baritones 2. Then work on legato vs. other articulations in Tbn/T. Sax part. 3. Everyone plays f. M. 10 13 i. Accents all parts should emphasize articulations/accents when they have them. 1. Especially Woodwind/Cornet parts. a. Model through singing their part. 2. Have students chant back then play. g. M. 13-20 i. Dynamic change from ff to p to f < ff. 1. Sustain pitches in respective dynamics and give feedback. 2. Play in time and listen for corrections. 1. Play through the entire piece from m. 5 to 45 4. Assessment Plan a. Watch students as they play/participate. b. Listen to the sound of the ensemble and what is being played 5. Musical and Pedagogical Preparation a. Learn the score. b. Practice conducting the score. c. Look for spots where the potential mistakes could happen. d. Be able to sing the sections with proper emphasis, rhythms and articulations. 6. Logistical Considerations a. Have the wind ensemble set up so they are ready for rehearsal. b. Have the score and baton ready to go. 7. National Standards a. Performing on instruments, with others, a varied repertoire of music b. Reading music c. Closure
