OCEAN
The Big-Five or also know by the acronym OCEAN is the five basic clusters of personality traits that remain quite stable through out life. Openness: imaginative, curious and welcomes new experiences. Conscientiousness: organized, deliberate, conforming. Extroversion: outgoing, assertive, active Agreeableness: kind, helpful, easygoing Neuroticism: anxious, moody, self critical
WHAT CAN BE DONE TO COMPENSATE IF YOU DONT DISPLAY POSITIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS?
Well, according to recent studies, the first place to start is with your self image. Improving ones self image can have a drastic affect on how you present yourself. If you are comfortable with your self you will have an easier time approaching people or future job opportunities. You can improve your self image by, focusing on all your strengths, think of past accomplishments, stop comparing your self to other and lastly smile more.
PERSONAL INSIGHT
Recently I had an interview for a job I really wanted, long story short I didn'tt get it. Before going into the interview I was extremely anxious, one of the traits that falls under neuroticism. I know I displayed this trait in the interview, if I can improve my self image I can reduce my anxiety before important events. One the other hand my husband shows high amounts of extroversion and openness. He had a really hard time in school and barley graduated high school, but because he can display these positive attributes to employers, he now has a well paying job in sales and I know it is a result of his outgoing personality.
CONCLUSION
I chose this topic because I feel I need to work on certain aspects of my personality to reach my full potential. It was also useful to see what some of my future employers will be looking for in interviews. With the knowledge I have gained, I will start working on improving my self image, so I can display positive personality traits to future employers.
