The muddy swamp is the place

We use the bone tools to cut down trees and make a woody hut with a grass roof by the water. Thick animal skins make good clothes for cold weather and the thin and light grass make good clothes for hot weather. Being in the swamp has its perks. With surplus water and a good amount of food I think I can survive all four seasons.

to be. There is water and food and trees. It is very lush here. The humid air keeps me warm. The green trees are not too tall, so we can climb to grab the soft leaves. Alligators and sh are the primary food to eat. Their hard and rough bones make great tools like hooks and axes. It is very sticky. The mud can be sun dried to make hard bricks.

Part I - Analysis Of The Problem

The rst step in building a successful civilization it to secure basic human needs such as

food and water. Due to its geography, the major challenges the civilization of Sotto faces in achieving a basic food and water supply include the following:

1.! It would be hard to have food because of the land. The muddy ground is not good soil for farming. It would take too long to domesticate animals in the swamp. The sh may not go for a line or an alligator could ght back. Not many people go to the swamp to trade because of our lack of resources.

2.! There are also water problems in the swamp. The water is very dirty, so if you drink it you could get very sick and die. To clean the water we would have to boil it. The humid air is not good for starting re. The branches would be to wet and we would have trouble making re. The swamp is very dirty too. Dirty water will not clean people. Rain only comes in the winter.

Part II - Proposed Solutions

Some modications (an adjustment that is made) that would improve life in the swamp would be a hatchery for sh. We would build a dam so that the small sh can swim through but the big ones cant. Sumerians also constructed dams along the river to block the water and force it to collect in pools they had built (Frey 36). This would help with food problems. We would not be as hungry and if we ran out of big sh we could always eat the small sh. The ground is hard so we could use slash and burn technique to dry out the

ground a little. The Maya used slashand-burn agriculture. First they cleared the land by cutting and burning plants and trees. Then they planted their crops (Frey 268). ! Water, on the other hand, is very hard

to get. Although there is surplus (extra) it is very dirty. There is not many ways of getting water. We would have to collect a lot of rain by building a reservoir. They conserved rainwater in canals and reservoirs (Frey 78). Or we could wait for people to come to trade, but as I said earlier people dont come.

Part I - Lesions On Democracy

What I can learn from the Spartans are to have more then 1-person rule. They had the Council of Orders. Men had to be 60

years old (Frey 265). Also in the Spartan Assembly everyone got Vito power. ! What I learned from Athens is being 18 to vote is a good law. All Citizens did

not get a say but it was still a democracy. Also having a council of 500 was good to have. The Athenian assembly had 6000 people show up from different families so that helped everyone get a say. What I like was that Everyone citizen could take part in the cities government. (Frey 261) ! What I learned from Rome is that all people do not get a share, and that it led to conict. The patricians got more then the plebeians. The patricians held all the power. (Frey 319). That is why I think a democracy is smart. I think the Citizens' Assemblies were smart. I would let woman have a say though for there would not be a conict.

Part II - Code Of Law

The threats to Sotto are mainly theft, violence, and inequality. When this happens it could lead to more crime. If we fallow the laws the civilization will thrive. If we dont fallow the laws nobody will want to live in Sotto.

! It is written that all people shall follow these laws:

I. No stealing or killing II. Everyone over 18 has freedom of speech III. No slavery IV. 1 king/president (no corruption) V. All jobs are available to people that qualify.
