F451 Essay!

People risk their lives everyday in defense of their country. In F451 we see a series of
issues including constant war and procrastination. These are two issues I will explain in
my essay. First I will discuss how war effects our society, and secondly with
procrastination, how it effects me and how to fix it.!

!
Wars are controversial. They are fought because of peoples beliefs and wishes. We
see this problem in F451 all the time. Throughout the book the war planes are circling
over the city. On page 74 of the PDF it says And the war began and ended in that
instant. In my life Ive learned much about wars from history class and watching 60
Minutes on Sundays with my family. It is difficult as a young adult to make sense of war.
I think that the more you know about different cultures the easier it is to understand and
accept them, while not necessarily agreeing with them. The more we all try to learn and
accept others, the more we as a people will be educated and have new eyes for the
problems. If I am to make a difference I need to be informed.!

!
For the second issue, I take on the topic of procrastination. and for me personally, how
my phone is an easy distraction. We see this in F451 as well.. Mildred is always
watching the Parlor Walls. On page 23 of the PDF Montag said Will you turn the Parlor

off? and Mildred instantly said theyre my family. In my life when I become distracted
with technology, I've lost time to do other things that I've could have done. The phone or
computer can easily burn so much time without my even realizing it. Sometimes, I get
behind and end up needing to sacrifice personal time. My solution is to turn off and put
my phone away when working or spending time with family or friends. If I want to carry
this out successfully, I will need to self motivate and follow through. If I follow my own
set of rules I will get my work done faster, better, and have more free time on my hands.!

!
I find it amazing that Bradbury wrote this book sixty years ago and these problems still
occur today. Its interesting how he predicted in his writing about the constant wars and
people ignoring their surroundings by being too involved with electronics. This is
important to talk about because this book was made before this technology even
existed. The same things from sixty years ago are still happening today with no solution,
people have ideas but on a major scale nothing has happened.
