Abstract
The present study aims to clarify how can ISO (International Organization for Standardization)
contribute for a sustainable development.
In the theoretical part, we speak about ISO and sustainable development in order to find the
relation between them. Then, we show the main techniques and management systems used by
economic company to adapt its management to economic, social and environmental considerations.
At the end of this part, we stress on the management ways that can achieve a sustainable
development according to ISO 9000, 14000, 18000, 26000.
We speak about this standardization and what does it need to enable the company to achieve its
goals.
In the practical part, we choose an Algerian company that has the most standardization of ISO:
Phosphate Mines company (SOMIPHOS) of Tebessa. We need to know how can it achieve a
sustainable development using this standardization. We analyze its social, environmental and
economic performances during and after getting ISO certificates in 2007.
Besides, the present study shows that the company which gets ISO 9000 certificate of quality
management system, it can reduce charges, ameliorate productivity and products quality, acquire
customers satisfaction, fortify the competitively, increase of market share, ameliorate financial
performance, and therefore to realize a sustainable development in the economic aspect moreover,
if the company gets ISO 14000 certificate, it will have many benefits. First, the rational use of
energy and natural resources. Then, reduce the pollution and respect the environmental haws.
Besides, protect customers and ameliorate products quality. Also, increase the exports and the good
reputation of the company. Therefore, it realizes a sustainable development in the environmental
aspect in addition to that, if the company adopt OHSAS 18000 according to ISO, the occupational
health and safety management system will reduce the accidents and ensure the physical and mental
safety of employees. Therefore, it realizes a sustainable development in the social aspect.
As a result, the use of ISO 9000, 14000 and 18000 with complete and continual manner cab
realize a sustainable development for the economic company.
