Geometric Character Analysis: Dreyden Wedertz A-6 The importance of the characters Luis, Paul, Erik, and Mr.

Fisher/ Dad, is very significant. Their uprising conflict in the story Tangerine, is very hard to miss, especially because of the huge role that it plays on Pauls confidence, Luis life, Dads attention, and Eriks football dream. This conflict makes up the whole body of the book because their conflict, builds suspense. It accomplishes this trait by making the reader wonder what is going to happen next. The reader is there wondering if everything is going to get better. As if there is a scent of a golden dawn (303). As being one of the main characters, Erik is a very hardcore and dangerous teenager who will do nothing to get on top. He is considered a psycho (209). Since he is considered a very dangerous and mysterious character, the color of his shape is black. Throughout many TV Shows, movies, and books, black is a color considered for its mysterious and dangerous backround. Hence, it fit Eriks personality perfectly. Eriks shape is represented by a star. He always thinks that he is on-top of everyone and will do nothing to stay there. Not only that, but the star has very jagged edges which can be used to hurt, injure, or even protect himself from whatever comes at him (262). He is positioned at the very top of the page to show how high up he thinks he is. He has a hard time trying to keep his self-control, for he will keep going until he will completely lose control (262). He has been accounted for many thing such as the burglaries in Lake Windsor Downs (279), and even the murder of Luis Cruz (211). He has no personal conscience because of him never thinking before what he does. Hence, Erik is a very dangerous character represented by a black, shadowy star.

Paul on the outside, is a very calm and relaxed figure, except on the inside, he is trying to build up a wall between him and Erik, but is worried because every time he does, it fails to stay up. He is represented as a circle on the outside because he seems well rounded, but on the inside, he is represented by a wavy figure because it is hard for him to stay well rounded until he finally explodes (251). On the outside, green represents his friendliness, blue represents his calmness, pink represents him being cool and collective, and red represents how he can get angry when Erik is around. But on the inside, gray represents how he tries really hard to build a barrier, but orange represents how it just keeps falling down. His placement is at the corner of the paper because he can see much more than everyone else can. In conclusion, Paul has many different sides, but is willing to let only one show. Dad is a very square character, represented by a purple rectangle. He is represented by the color purple because purple means clueless. He is only on track with one of his sons, and thats Erik ( ). Paul, on the other hand is very distant from his dad. Dads placement on the page has to deal with why he and Erik are so close. He is right under Erik, but he and Paul are as far as can be. Although Dad is not one of the main characters, he plays a huge part in the conflict between Luis, Paul, Erik, and himself. The next and last character is Luis, why is being represented by a red and blue wavy figure. The shape was chosen because Luis is a character struggling to manage some stress in his life, of course caused by Erik, but can stay pretty calm at some points. The blue in his shape represents how calm he can be around people, he really doesnt like, but the red represents his anger toward Erik (211). His placement, which is right next to Paul, represents how he and Paul are just like brothers. They have a really tight bond which is what makes it so weird because Paul and Erik do no act like brothers with each other.

The relationships between all of the characters are really similar, especially toward Erik. For example, the jagged lines represent barbed-wire because every way that you try to move, you will get hurt. Especially since Erik is a very violent person (211, 209, 212). But only the lines between Erik and Dad are positive, because they are a knot, which represents how tight they are with each other. Dad and Pauls lines are hands with a line in-between them, because they try to reach out to each other, but there is just a barricade in between them. The lines between Luis and Oaul are wavy and calm. This shows how tight they were, because to Paul, Luis is a part of [him] now (252). In conclusion, Dad, Paul, Erik, and Luis have very obvious conflicts which make up the body of the story. Overall, if there were no characters with conflicts in the story Tangerine, it would be a dull, boring, and story with nothing but a setting, and a title.
