    The poem is about a domestic worker complaining to their employer, referred to as "Madam", about all the housework they have to do including cooking, cleaning, and caring for children. At the end of the poem, Madam cries and says she loves the worker, but the worker responds that while Madam's love may be true, the amount of work is nearly breaking them down and they will not say they love Madam in return.
