Dear Dr. Ballinger, I am writing this letter in support of Sheldon Sucre for the Robert Pate Scholarship. I have known Sheldon for three years in which time I have been his professor and have also watched him develop into a dedicated professional. Sheldon always gives 100% in all he does. Sheldon consistently sets an example for his peers and is highly regarded as an outstanding student in the health and physical education department. Sheldons positive attitude and hard work is to be highly commended. He has maintained a 3.6 GPA and has made Deans List every semester since arriving at Adelphi University. Sheldons hard work has not gone unnoticed. He is the recipient of many awards. Most recently Sheldon has been named the 2012 recipient of NYS AHPERDs J.B Nash Scholarship Award, the highest award that the organization presents to an undergraduate student. Only one male and one female are chosen on a yearly basis and Sheldon will be honored this November at the NYS AHPERD conference. Sheldon has received Tau Sigma Honor Society membership for his outstanding service and scholarship. Sheldon is also the recipient of the John A. Weisz Scholarship at Adelphi University. At the 2011 AAHPERD Convention, Sheldon was Adelphi Universitys choice for the Physical Education Major of the year and was honored at the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) awards presentation. Sheldon is an active member in our professional organizations. He currently holds membership in both NYS AHPERD and AAHPERD. Sheldon is also an active member of the Council for Aquatic Professionals (CAP). Sheldon is highly motivated and excited about teaching physical education. Sheldon has presented and presided at the 2011 NYS AHPERD Convention and the 2012 Nassau Zone Conference. His proposal to present at the 2012 NYS AHPERD Convention in November has been accepted and he will be presenting in his area of expertise, aquatics. His presentation at 2011 NYS AHPERD titled, Catch the Wave: Update your Aquatic Safety Skills in CPR was well represented by professionals throughout New York State. Sheldon has also attended many of the past Nassau and Suffolk Zone Conferences throughout his educational experience and has volunteered to be a presider at all he has attended. Sheldon is extremely motivated and enthusiastic to be a leader in professional organizations. As an undergraduate student he decided to accept the nomination to run as NYS AHPERDs Aquatic Section President and was elected. Sheldon attends meetings and acts as program planner for all of the Aquatic programs at the annual convention.

Sheldon goes above and beyond what most undergraduates do during their studies. Sheldon is an instructor for CPR/AED and First Aid and is always willing to do refresher courses for his peers and faculty. You can most often see Sheldon informing members of NYS AHPERD about these courses as well as lifeguarding courses that he posts on the NYS AHPERD Facebook page and makes available for anybody who is interested. Sheldon is also involved in a program called Make a Splash/Guard Start. This program serves underprivileged youth and teaches them swimming, rescue and water safety skills as well as certifying students in these areas if they so choose to be. Throughout his years as a physical education major, Sheldon has been involved in many different activities. Sheldon is a member of the physical education majors club. He has taken a leadership role in the club as both Secretary and Vice President. He continues to be one of the most active members of the club. Sheldon is always involved in whatever needs to be done to make the club and his program as strong as it can be. He communicates through ongoing newsletters, e-mails and created an Adelphi University Facebook page where he provides information about majors club happenings that helps his peers become and stay involved. Sheldon has also actively participated in the Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, Hoops for Heart, Blindfold Baseball and the American Heart Walk. His involvement in these activities clearly demonstrates his motivation in helping all individuals. Professionally, Sheldon is completing his student teaching experience in physical education in New York City where is passion for teaching at risk youth and promoting positive youth development is highly regarded. Sheldon plans to continue his education with a masters degree in youth development. It is my pleasure, as one of Sheldons professors at Adelphi University to recommend him for the Robert Pate Scholarship. I endorse him highly.

Sincerely,

Mara Manson
