Geometric Character Analysis

In the book Tangerine there were 3 main characters that stood out because of the way they connected and evolved throughout the story. The characters were Paul, Erik, and Arthur. Arthur was needed in there because many of the events wouldnt have happened if Arthur wasnt in story. Erik because he seems like this big, bold, mean person on the outside, but on the inside he holds some regret from his actions. Finally, Paul was chosen because he is a complex character who has many good traits and uses those traits to benefit him. The first character chosen to make a shape for was Paul Fisher. Paul was chosen mainly because he had many different sides to him. The shape for Paul was a semicircle but then on the other side of the semicircle there are bumps and squiggles. To finish his shape off there is a cone like shape on top. The semicircle represents just an average 7th grade boy who plays a sport like any other kid. The squiggles on the other side represent that hes different. The squiggles represent his eye issue, and how he was blinded as a kid. Also how he as to wear those big goggles not like a normal kid, and that he just moved to new school. Lastly the shape has the cone top. The cone shows that Paul is smart, organized, very precise, and that hes a great observer. But the shape isnt the only thing that represents Paul as a character, the color represents him too. The green represent him as an average boy, peacefulness, and just him as a human. The pink shows his different side and that he holds regret and anger (264-265). But the orange shows his organization, kindness, and sharpness. The next character instead of doing just Erik it was chosen to do Erik and Arthur. Erik and Arthur were chosen because Arthur is kind of like Eriks sidekick and they do everything

Arthur and Erik are shaped very similar because they are both very angry and mean people on the outside (204-205). They are shaped like one of those spike balls or like a sea urchin. Erik and Arthur are both a dark red but towards the end of the book they both have a little bit of regret from their actions, but Arthur has more regret so that is why he is colored a dark blue. The red represents their anger and meanness, and the blue represents their sadness and regret (279-284). The relationship between Erik and Paul is that they are brothers, and the relationship between Arthur and Paul is really only acquaintances. In the picture Erik and Arthur are throwing this, mean, nasty, angry vibe to Paul. But Paul doesnt really let it bother him like a normal person. He blocks out Arthur and Eriks angry vibes with the colors, green, orange, and red. The green stands for average again, because any normal person if they were being bullied would try to block out the bad messages and forget it. The orange is his organization because Paul knows that there are more important things to deal with rather than Erik and Arthur. Lastly the red means anger, because Paul just get sick and tired of Erik and Arthur being mean so he just tries to forget it. Erik, Arthur, and Paul all changed as the book went on. Erik and Arthur kind of lost their toughness and later it turned in regret and sadness. Paul was this average boy who came to face some not normal events. This relationship between these characters is important because it changed some of the sadness and fearfulness in Paul to anger, rage, and relief.
