1- 7 Ordered

Pairs
(x,y)
x + y = 10
• What are some possible solutions to
this problem?
Ordered pairs
• An ordered pair is a solution of a two-
variable equation
• It is always written in ( x, y) order
• Determine whether each ordered ppair
is a solution of y = 3x + 2
• (1, 4) y = 3x + 2
• 4 = 3(1) + 2
• 4=3+2
• 4= 5 ????
• (1, 4) IS NOT A SOLUTIONS
Ordered pairs
• (2, 8) y = 3x + 2
• 8 = 3(2) + 2
• 8=6+2
• 8=8
• (2, 8) IS A SOLUTION
• (16, 50) y = 3x + 2
• 50 = 3(16) + 2
• 50 = 48 + 2
• 50 = 50
• (16, 50) IS A SOLUTION
Creating a table of ordered pair
solutions
• y = 3x for x = 1, 2, 3, 4
Try this
• The fine for speeding in one town is $75
plus $6 for every mile over the speed limit.
The equation that gives the total cost c of a
speeding ticket is c = 75 + 6m, where m is
the number of miles per hour over the
speed limit. Dr. Buckwellwas issued a ticket
for going 85mph in a 55 mph zone. What is
his cost of the ticket??
• c = 75 + 6m
• c = 75 + 6(30)
• c = 75 + 180
• c = 255 so the total cost of Dr. B’s ticket is
$255!!
