First of all I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! It has certainly been a busy year for our Club. I am so pleased with all the support I have had from our members this past year. I know we were not able to x everything, but we certainly tried! Just the number of members coming to each meeting has been a big improvement! I know we struggled with getting volunteers as well as participation in our shows, but my hat is off to everyone of you who did make the effort to support this Club! Please remember that we are all volunteers and have lives outside of this Club, so lets show appreciation for those members who do give their time to help the Club. I know that we still have much work ahead of us and it will not be an easy task. We need to discusswhere we want this club to go and how we are going to accomplish our goals. Remember what I said in the beginning of my term, If you have a good idea or suggestion, you own it! Once again, I want to THANK all of you who have worked for and supported the Club this year! Keep up the great work! Charlotte This is Judy Guentzler-Collins. I am the new Pres. for the 2014 year. Below is a condensed version of the email I composed and had broadcast to the club over Thanksgiving weekend, so some of you may have seen it, but I am inserting it for those that didnt. It is an expression of the attitude I hope to see the club adopt. Somewhere between optimism and realism. We are not ofcially in ofce until Jan 1, but Cindy and I have bounced around ideas because I feed at her place, and we had areat, unofcial, group discussion at a recentBBQ that followed the relocation of the jumps and the dressage arena. I am well aware of the struggles of the past year, and plan to make sure we dont over-extend ourselves nancially or as far as bodily resources. Along those lines, I plan to have an upbeat CD&EA year, and I would like us to jump start that now. :) We may accomplish a lot, and we may accomplish very little,

but we will accomplish what we can reasonably do. We need to keep in mind the economy, kids dont go outside anymore, and where the majority of us are training/disciple-wise w/ the horses we have now. We can look at the past successes of the club as a guide, but then we need to look at our current reality andsee what local area shifts sneaked in while we were moving through the years. The CD&EA needs to function as a living organism and adjust to meet Cochise County where it is NOW, rather than constantly looking back and trying to futilely force our club and the area into an obsolete formula. Maybe kids just arent into horses, or specically English, currently. Or their parents cant afford it. Several kids in school have mentioned the horse they had to get rid of recently. Maybe none of us in the area are at the point where regularly, organized jumping will occur.... now, but we have some horses that are coming up, so we may in the next year or two. Another reality is that historically in clubs 10% of the members do 90% of the work. It is human nature. Humans want to belong, but they dont have time, energy or inclination to do. Some members expressed frustration at the Oct. mtg. over the lack of participation of our members in 2013. However...immediately following that mtg., theTDC released statistics showing they had had only 23% participation in their club for the same year. If we take 40 members x 23% that would be 9 members. We will keep that in mind when scheduling events. The same w/ money. If an event cant support itself, it cant happen. I encourage members to please bring things up at meetings, or if the next meeting is too far off, call a Board Member and let us know what is on your mind! I also ask if you have trouble w/something, please dont send out a broadcast email to the entire membership. Emails are so easy to misconstrue. As mentioned at the Nov mtg, we would like to have the rst mtg of the year as a brainstorming session, starting w/ the mission statement and the surveys. I encourage everyone to attend this meeting, even if you dont plan attend any other meetings in 2014. Looking forward to a great, forward-thinking, realistic year!! Thanks and Happy Holidays! Judy

This year some of the CDEA members joined in the fun of the...unofcial, unorganized Palominas parade. The parade was on Sat, December12 down Palominsas Rd
