Positive Behavior Support (PBS) at Henderson Hammock

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) has started in full swing at Henderson Hammock! PBS is a program that promotes good behavior from 100% of students through the use of rewards and teaching, rather than only punishments for poor behavior. Teachers and school staff members hold HAWK Bucks. HAWK Bucks are PBS Money That Henderson Hammock staff is giving to students who demonstrate good behavior. Once the students have accumulated enough HAWK Bucks, they can make purchases, and they can buy tickets to PBS events. PBS items and events can only be purchased with HAWK Bucks. PBS rewards cannot be purchased with United States money. Sixth and Seventh Grade Dance- January 31, 2014 From 6pm-8pm Cost: 40 HAWK Bucks Each month, Henderson Hammock will be hosting a PBS event. Students can pay for admission with their HAWK bucks. Students who have earned a referral during that month will not be allowed to attend, despite holding enough HAWK Bucks. Students who have earned referrals are still able to purchase items from our upcoming catalog. Our next PBS event will be the dance! DJ Yahoo (Mr. Diaz) will be our MC for the night! Dress is semiformal. Regular casual day dress code rules will be in effect (cover the shoulders, etc.)

A Letter From Mrs. Ketchum Parents and Students,

What should you be bringing to Language Arts class daily? Personal supplies your student needs to have DAILY include a composition book or spiral bound notebook, a folder with pockets, pencils, notebook paper and an agenda. Your student would also benefit from having a dictionary and thesaurus for personal use. Students will also need index cards for writing assignments soon. Scholastic Books Language Arts Magazine, Scope Thank you for your contributions to the Scholastic Books Language Arts magazine Scope. If you can still contribute to our classroom subscription ($148.50 total), please do so by this Friday, January 10. This is a great classroom resource that your student will love! Coffee-House Style Poetry Readings We are working on poetry for a couple of weeks, then diving deep into the writing and editing process. Please encourage your student to keep up with writing assignments to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Our poetry unit test is Friday, January 17. They will be preparing study guides and hearing several poetry readings. When we being our writing units, students will be encouraged to participate in class coffee house style readings. Students may read their original writings in a variety of genres. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at dketchum@hendersoncharter.org. Science Midterm and Website

Students have their science midterm this Wednesday, January 15. It will be 35 multiple choice questions that cover all three units from this year. Last week, we completed a short study guide, and students were required to create flashcards for all three units' vocabulary words (3 days' worth of homework). On Friday, students were given the last midterm study guide to complete by this Tuesday. The midterm study guides, vocabulary words, review web sites, games, missing homework assignments, and more can be found on my new website delgenioscience.weebly.com! All of the students have taken time throughout the week to explore the site, so they should be familiar with the layout. For resources, please click the "Unit Resources" tab.
