Dear Parent/Carer,

During Health and Fitness Week we will be running a Sporty Potato competition. We would like
to invite your child to turn an ordinary potato into a sporty character e.g. a footballer, a tennis
star, be as imaginative as you can! This idea comes from the term couch potato. There will be
small prizes for the winners. The sporty potatoes must be brought into school by Thursday 26
th

June as the competition will be judged on the afternoon. Please make sure your childs name can
be seen clearly.

There will also be a quiz sent home on Monday 23
rd
June for the whole family to help with. All
entries for the quiz must be returned to school by Thursday 26
th
June and we will then put all of
the correct entries into a hat to draw a winner. The winner will receive a healthy foods hamper
for all the family to share!

During the week there will also be a scooter challenge taking place on the school playgrounds. A
course will be set up and the children will compete against the stopwatch! All children who want
to take part must wear a helmet as this is a speed and skills challenge.

Children can bring their scooters and helmets to school on Wednesday 25
th
June or on Friday 27
th

June. Please see below for your childs year group date. They will need to store their scooters in
the following places (please make sure the childs name is on the scooter as we anticipate that
many scooters will be the same or similar);
Year 5 and 6 use the scooter and bike storage shelters (Friday 27
th
June)
Year 3 and 4 use the calm garden area between Y5/6 and Y3/4. (Wednesday 25
th
June)
Year 1 and 2 use the calm garden area between Y3/4 and Y1/2. (Wednesday 25
th
June)
Early Years will use their own wheeled toys in school for a separate activity.
Please ask the children to take their helmets into the classrooms and not leave them with
their scooter. All helmets should be labelled with your childs name.

We have one last challenge for the children and adults too! During the World Cup please use the
grid below to record how many hours/minutes you spend watching the World Cup matches and/or
Wimbledon tennis matches. At the end of the competitions total the time you have spent sitting
and watching and see if you can do at least the same amount in time taking part in sporty
activities during the summer holidays. Enjoy!

Date Hours/minutes

We hope all the children enjoy the activities on offer during Health and Fitness week and we
would love your child to try something new, be more active than usual and have lots of fun with
their friends. Lets hope the weather is kind next week!

If you have any questions, please let us know.
