A local hospital is partnering with Del Norte High School to provide free injury evaluations for student athletes on Monday mornings. The hospital's physician assistant will visit the high school each week to see any athletes needing evaluation for injuries sustained in competition. This will save athletes trips to the doctor or emergency room. The hospital hopes to also offer physical therapy services in the future to further help athletes without long trips for treatment. Coaches or parents must provide a referral for athletes to be seen during class time. The program aims to better serve student athletes through cooperation between the school and hospital.

Parents and student athletes:
It is our great pleasure to be able to provide a much needed service with the cooperation of Rio Grande Hospital to our student athletes. The hospital, more specifically PA Brian Freeman and CEO, have reached out to the schools in order to better help our injury evaluation process with our athletes. This will be a %100 free service provided by Brian in which he will come to the high school on Monday mornings to see any athlete that needs to be evaluation due to any injury sustained in competition throughout the previous week. Brian will conduct the evaluation and recommend any needed therapy or rehabilitation. This saves you the trip to the doctor or the ER. The hospital is hopefully going to offer our athletes any needed physical therapy in the future as well to save the trip and time to Monte Vista. Athletes will be required to have a referral from their coach or parent before they will be called out of class to see Brian. This is a work in progress, one we hope will continue to evolve and serve our athletes in a better way for all parties. Many schools already have this service provided by other therapist or licensed athletic trainers. This is a great opportunity, please call if you have any questions.
