RIFS 2014 PAID APPRENTICESHIP IN

URBAN AGRICULTURE

FOR REFUGEES & IMMIGRANTS

GROWING NEW ROOTS IN A SAFER LAND... About the Refugee & Immigrant Fund (RIF)
The Refugee & Immigrant Fund (RIF), a non-profit organization based in New York City, was established in 2007 to provide a safe space & opportunities for refugees to rebuild their lives & start afresh in the United States. Since its inception, RIF has served over 600 refugees.

Our Mission

To bridge newcomers to their new home through urban agriculture platforms.


The Urban Agriculture Training Program is implemented in collaboration with the Brooklyn Grange & is conducted once every year across two of the worlds largest rooftop farms in Brooklyn & Queens. Participants of the program will gain from: Urban Farming activities & training once a week beginning end March to October 2014
>>>Training in sustainable urban agriculture practices including but not limited to seed propagation, transplantation, tillage, fertilization, weeds & pest control, compost management, harvesting, sales & marketing of produce.

About the 2014 Apprenticeship Program

Skills training workshops including job readiness, resume writing & English language classes
>>>Exposure to jobs in the green industry; understand small scale food producing; learn power tools & green roof installation; find out how social media will be used as an important marketing tool; learn how to prepare an impeccable resume & learn interview skills; & weekly classes on written & conversational English.

Program Eligibility

Preferably an immigrant (refugee, asylum seeker, etc.)

who has resided in the United States for 5 or lesser years. Able to begin the program in New York City in 2014 & is committed to allocate one day (8 hours) a week for skills & urban agriculture training.
