About the Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps:

The national Anti-Hunger and Opportunity Corps Program (AHOC), an initiative of Hunger Free
America (HFA) since 2010, is one of the largest anti-hunger AmeriCorps VISTA projects in the
country. Its main focus is to fight hunger and improve nutrition, primarily by breaking down
barriers to accessing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as
the Food Stamp Program) as well as by expanding economic opportunity and ensuring healthy
futures for all Americans, mostly through the SNAP Employment and Training program.
Members also serve to increase the capacity of anti-hunger community organizations to help meet
the needs of low-income community members, particularly to seniors, working families and non-
English speaking populations.

The Campus Kitchen at IUPUI (CKIUPUI), located in Indianapolis, is an emerging leader in

community service and anti-hunger programming. We provide thousands of meals to populations
in need each year while offering supplemental programs to address the root causes of hunger. We
are part of The Campus Kitchens Project (CKP), an organization that empowers student
volunteers to fight hunger in their community. On over 60 university and high school campuses
like ours across the country, students transform unused food from dining halls, grocery stores,
restaurants, and farmers' markets into meals that are delivered to local agencies serving those in
need. By taking the initiative to run a community kitchen, students develop entrepreneurial and
leadership skills, along with a commitment to serve their community, that they will carry with
them into future careers. Each Campus Kitchen goes beyond meals by using food as a tool to
promote poverty solutions, implement garden initiatives, participate in nutrition education, and
convene food policy events.
