Wondering what your P&C does at Soldiers Point Public School?

Other improvements Run Around Australia 2012

The P&C is a volunteer based organisation. The aim of the P&C is to nurture community spirit and help the school with parent and community input. Below is information about P&C activities and monies raised since 2010. Creative Play Spaces Fete 2010

The fete from Sept 2010 raised approximately $35,000. This started the P&C term deposit. From the term deposit, the P&C: donated $9,000 to the school. The school paid Terras, a landscape architectural rm, to create a professional Creative Play Spaces master plan for the school. The full plans can be found at http://www. soldierspt-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/improvingour-learning-environment donated $4,000 to the school. The school paid for Engineering Plans for the swale area and top eld. These plans address the issue of the eld being waterlogged for extended periods due to ineffective drainage (the swale/drainage problem needs to be addressed before further playground works) donated $3,000 to the school. $1500 was put towards the Rememberance Garden and the school is using $1500 to pay for Kindy Outdoor Furniture. The remainder of the term deposit has been retained for the next stage of the Creative Play Spaces works including: creating the swale area to correct drainage in the top eld addressing soil compaction in areas (and tree root exposure) addressing erosion creating our playground.
We have a quote to build much of the major work per the plans and need an additional $20-$30,000 at least to complete some major parts, including the points listed above.

In 2012 the school community won prizes to the value of $46,000 in the Run Around Australia competition. The prizes included a Thermomix Australia and Childrens Food Education Foundation package including goods for the canteen and visits to the school (value $16,000), education equipment from Education Experience (value $15,000), and $15,000 cash which was used to purchase an interactive whiteboard for the library, iPads and iPad-related technology.
Grants

In 2012 the P&C was successful in gaining a $15,000 Community Building Partnership Grant to install additional covered walkways. The walkways were completed in October 2013 at a cost of $17,900. This required an additional contribution of $2,900 from the P&C. In applying for this grant the P&C referred to the Creative Play Spaces master plan from Terras (see dot point 1 in previous column). This master plan is being used to support a range of grant applications.
Other expenses

October 2013: Allocated $500 to the school for books (classroom readers). 2013 disco: Raised $1,305 donated to the school to help fund the cyberbullying seminar. 2012 Tea Towel fundraiser: Raised $1,300 donated to the school for funky student furniture. 2012 disco: Raised $860 help build the garden behind the two-storey block in conjunction with the school.
We are hoping to achieve some more capital from current and future grants applications. However these applications cannot be relied on for ongoing funding. The P&C needs to consider further fundraising ideas.
