cost, versatlle lndustrlal controller that ls qulck
and easy to lnstall and can be operated by
personnel wlth llmlted experlence of pro-
grammable controllers.
Thls manual contalns text, dlagrams and ex-
planatlons that show the reader how the mo-
dule ls correctly lnstalled and safety used and
operated. efore lnstalllng the module the
contents of thls manual must have been read

lsolatlng condltlons:
0nly use power supplles that guarantee rella-
ble operatlng voltage lsolatlon ln accordance
wlth lFC 742 ] Fh 60742 ] v0F 0551, PFLv wlth
at least 4 kv of dlelectrlc strength for the 24 v
0C power supply (power connectlons) and the
power supply to the dlgltal lnputs (nomlnal 24

Swltched mode power supplles wlth rellable
lsolatlon as per Fh 60950 ] v0F 0805 are
permltted.
The PS1 PSF3 power supply meet the above
requlrements. The 24 v 0C sensor supply pro-
vlded ln the FC21 and FC23 products meets the
above requlrement for rellable malns voltage
lsolatlon and can therefore be used for supp-
lylng the dlgltal lnputs, provlded that potentlal
lsolatlon from the lnternal system voltage ls
not requlred for provldlng lnterference lmmu-
nlty, for example.
Power supplles wlth baslc lsolatlon and 2.5 kv
of dlelectrlc strength are permltted for supp-
lylng the power to the dlgltal translstor out-
puts (24 v 0C nomlnal).
The power relays that are used allow malns
voltages of overload category ll to be swltched
dlrectly, and the lsolatlon strength between
the contacts and the coll ls greater than 4 kv.
The solld-state relays that are used allow AC
voltages ln overload category l to be swltched.
lnterference lmmunlty:
0nly shlelded cable should be used for TP and
cross-over cables. TP cables of type S]STP are
sultable. The shlelds should be connected to
an lnterference-free earth at both ends, over a
large area and wlth low lmpedance.
Page 10

The houslngs of the hubs that are used should

also be earthed wlth low lmpedance.
User safety and device pretectien
Thls manual ls lntended for the use of tralned
speclallsts when lnstalllng the FFC FC34-FST
module. Safety guldellnes are deflned ln the
Furopean dlrectlves for machlnery, low volta-
ge and FMC. Throughout thls manual, symbols
are used to hlghllght lnformatlon relatlng to
the user's personal safety and the safeguar-
dlng of the machlne's lntegrlty. whenever any
of these symbols are encountered, the asso-
clated note should be read and understood.

Cautlon:
Please ensure that the power ls swltched off
before you replace cables or carry out other
work.
lf you need to measure the maxlmum lnsulatl-
on voltage and the lnsulatlng reslstance of the
FFC module, dlsconnect the lncomlng and out-
golng wlres and the power cable from the mo-
dule and carry out the measurements across
all the termlnals and the earth termlnal uslng a
common polnt.
efore swltchlng on the power, check the po-
wer supply and earth connectlons and the ln-
comlng and outgolng connectlons.
Please ensure that none of the lnstallatlon
screws are loose. Make sure that no screw
termlnals for external connectlons are loose.
There must be no vlslble damage to external
connectlons.

lf the power supply termlnals are wrongly
connected, a short clrcult between
the lncomlng dlrect current wlres
and the power supply cable or a

cause conslderable damage to the module.

Translstor outputs A0.2 to A0.7 are lndepen-
dently protected agalnst short clrcults and
overloads.
lf short clrcult or overload current ls applled,
the swltchlng translstor heats up. The over-
heatlng fuse swltches the output concerned

The process cycle tlme depends on the magnl-

tlme may be less than 1 second.

0o not connect any of the unu-

lf loads such as forward]back-

they are swltched on slmultane-

should be provlded ln order to
prevent such loads from belng

For FMFkCFhC ST0P functlons
the output loads should be swlt-

The FFC has a kuh]ST0P swltch that can be
lnterrogated by the software.
5tatus L
The FFC has a status LF0 whlch can be green,
orange or red. The LF0 can be programmed by
the software that ls belng used and usually
lndlcates the current program status. The LF0
can also flash ln all three colours.
fast ceunters
lnputs F1.2 and F1.3 can be lndependently
conflgured as fast counter lnputs and used to
count counter pulses up to a frequency of 2
khz. The counters are 16-blt (0 to 65535) and
are conflgured and evaluated uslng the provl-
ded program llbrary. lnputs that are conflgu-
red as counters can also be read ln as normal
dlgltal lnputs.

tncrementa| enceder
The FFC has a 16-blt software lncremental en-
coder (see A dlrectlon detectlon) that can
process counter pulses of up to 200 hz. Con-
nectlon takes place uslng the two lnterrupt
lnputs F1.0 and F1.1. An optlonal reference
swltch can be connected uslng lnput F0.7.
Ana|eg petentiemeter (trimmer)
The FFC has an analog potentlometer that can
be easlly ad|usted wlthln a range of 1 to 63

be read by the software that ls used. Tasks
such as "flne tunlng" of operatlng parameters

can be executed ln a cost-savlng way uslng thls
lntegrated feature.
1he timer functien
The FFC has an extremely flexlble tlmer functlon
that makes lt posslble to conflgure up to 32 32-

whlch the FFC (not FC34) module can be con-
nected as a remote expanslon or another serl-
al devlce wlth max. 115 Kbaud can be actua-

ln order to connect an FFC as a remote expan-
slon you requlre an FFC KS04 cable. The remo-
te expanslon ls conflgured and actuated uslng
the provlded program llbrary. The module on
whlch the remote functlon ls software-actlva-

control program.
