8 Tips to a Successful Interview

1Your advocate. Put some thought into who you want to be your advocate. This person should have some insight as to who you are outside of school. Fill out the Advocate form and return it to the Career Center ASAP so information can be mailed to your advocate.

The Interview- Part A


(Arrive 15 minutes before your interview start time.)

2- Dress professionally.
Guys- nice dress pants or khakis and a collared shirt. Girls- nice slacks/skirt and blouse/sweater or dress.

3- When entering the room, greet your panel by introducing yourself and shaking their
hand.

4- Present each panel member with your resume. (Make sure it is the most current and
revised one you have)

5- Use note cards for your presentation. There are 4 points you need to include in your
presentation. a) How your high school education contributed to who you are today. b) Share your activities (clubs, sports, church) and how they contribute to your growth and future. c) Tell how you gave back to the community in your Community Service outreach. d) Share your career goals and how you are going to get there.

6- Your visual aid.


Make sure your visual aid helps tell your story in regards to your presentation . If you are using a PowerPoint, it must be on a flash drive. Other options are a poster board, musical instrument, dance, song, or another type of creative medium.

The Interview- Part B 7- Be familiar with the questions for Part 2 of your interview.
Answer these questions thoughtfully and honestly.

8- Thank the panel.


The Community members and your advocate took time out of their day to help with this process. Let them know you appreciate it.
