Homework 7: AE302, High-Speed Aerodynamics

April 9, 2007
Due: April 18, 2007, beginning of class
We have performed two runs at the SDSU Blow-Down tunnel. The runs were performed
on a diamond-wedge airfoil at an zero and five degrees angle of attack of zero. (Poor
quality) movies of the experiment can be found at
http://attila.sdsu.edu/~jacobs/Movie_0003.wmv

Given:

The atmospheric pressure is 14.62 psi.

Total pressure in the test section: p0,test = 29.65 +14.62 psi.
Mach number in the test section is Mtest=2
The half angle of the airfoil is =8.5 degrees

Question 1: Determine the angle of the oblique shock wave using theoretical tools, and
verify with the experimental Schlieren pictures below.
Given:
the gauge pressure in psi at the trailing edge top (a: port 13) and bottom (c:
port14), and leading edge top (d: port 15) and bottom (e: port 16).
