He is the Chosen One!

From serving sheep to servant King!
Last week, we started talking about the story of David, the Shepherd boy who became King. We talked about how David must have felt when he was summoned by King Saul to live with him and play his harp for him. He must have scared, but he obeyed his father, Jesse, and went to serve King Saul. What a big change that must have been for him, one day, he is out caring for his sheep, and the next day he is playing on-demand harp to a stressed out King! Sometimes, I feel like David must have felt, God, Im doing a pretty good job here with my little sheep, Im happy, they are happy why would you call me to go somewhere and do something I dont want to do? Of course, you and I probably wouldnt be called to play the harp for the president, but we may be called to serve the church or our community in a way that we would have never imagined! God gave David many talents, and he had something specific in mind for each and every one of them, and they each played an integral role in his journey to becoming King.

Do you have gifts and talents that you could use for the kingdom? Encouraging others, showing hospitality, making meals, administration, singing, playing an instrument are part of a long list of talents that you can use to glorify God! Tonight, we are going to be talking about being a good friend. Our verse is Philippians 2:4, Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Specifically, we will be talking about David and his friend, Jonathan (Sauls son), and their loyal bonds of friendship. This is such a valuable lesson - God didnt put David in a possibly volatile situation (David, chosen to be the next king by the prophet Samuel, now serving Saul, known for his blinding jealousy and pride) without friends there to help and encourage him. Thats encouraging to me! God values friendship, and knows that we need each other - daily! Sparky got to go home with Hayden Fickes this past week. Sparky said that Hayden was working really hard on his verses and he was very eager to answer questions! Also, our Sparky of the Month for October is Veronica Nunnally! Great job Hayden and Veronica!
