Sept 17- Final Consultation on the Student Code

After that, the Drafting committee met to consolidate the concerns raised during the consultation. The JUNK the
CODE call was disregarded.
The committee released a second draft(no soft copy was released though)
The USC’s deadline to submit feedbacks and a united stand regarding the Student code draft is on October 28,
where a meeting between the USC Chairperson and the Drafting Committee will also be held.
Issue: why now? The students are obviously busy with the finals and requirements.
UMAKSYON Meeting on the 19th
UP Mindanao plans to adopt the proposal of the code. Their proposal to implement this is pending.

No budget for capital Outlay. The Admin’s response to this is a new set of lab fee increase proposals.
ARKI and SURP: increase in lab fee for incoming and present students (details yet to be released)
MEGA Dorm: 100+ Million from the collected tuition fee (from TOFI babies) will be used for the construction. At
present, the dorm with the highest fee, Kalayaan, charges 500 pesos per month. The MEGA dorm will be
charging 1,500 per student.

III.

Fee increases will be on the agenda of the meeting(due to the lack of state subsidy).
College Deans are proposing a standardization of grad tuition fee in the whole campus. At present CHE has the
largest grad tuition fee increase, P2500, which was implemented this first semester of AY 2009-2010.
UP Manila: PAASCU Accreditation. At present, the College of Medicine is at level 5. Other colleges will also be
seeking for accreditation.
o Implications:
 Improvement of facilities that will be shouldered by students: tuition and lab fee increases.
 The curriculum can be dictated by PAASCU; Academic freedom will be threatened.
UPLB: student leaders and progressive organizations cannot freely organize activities due to the monitoring of
the military. They are also tagged as communists.
