PRACTICALITY OF RUDOLF DREIKURS THEORY

Democratic teaching
-involve the students in setting the class rules Eg: beginning of the year/ semester, have a class meeting

Reinforcement vs praise
-eg:

Student A has completed his task earlier than the others.

Reinforcement You have done a great job. Praise You are the first student to finish the task.

Logical consequences
Problems Vandalism Logical consequences Clean up the mess Replace the properties (if possible) Do charity work
They have to finish their work on their own time (recess / after school time) Move their desk or rearrange seats

Not completing task/ homework Excessive talking/ disturbing others

Confront students with the four goals:

1. 2. 3. 4.
Could it be that you want special attention? 2. Could it be that you want your own way and hope to be boss? 3. Could it be that you want to hurt others as much as you feel hurt by them?

4. Could it be that you want to be left alone? Dreikurs, 1972, p. 34, 41)
