Assignment # 01: [CHM 222A & SE331; Part-B]

1. How many atoms are there in 18 g of helium (He)? 2. What is the weight (in grams) of one mole B2O3? 3. Calculate the molarity of hydrochloric acid (HCl) solution, where HCl has a density of 2.0 g/mL and mass percent 38%. 4. Determine the mole fraction of H2O in a mixture (liquid solution) consisting of 9 g H2O, 115 g C2H5OH, and 120 g CH3COOH. 5. A rectangular container of volume 120 cm3 partitioned into two halves (part A and part B) with equal volume. Part A contains nitrogen gas at 1 atm and 298K. In part B there is hydrogen gas at the same pressure and temperature of part A. Calculate Gibbs energy of mixing and entropy when the partition is removed. Treat the gases are ideal. 6. The density of a 50% by mass ethanol-water solution is 0.9 g/cm3. The partial molar volume of water in that solution is 17.4 cm3/mol. Calculate the partial molar volume of ethanol. The solution is at 298K.
