Dr. Eduardo Canela (Ed to friends and young consultants) is international consultant and capacity development (CD) practitioner (focusing on OD, team performance, and project management). He has more than 25 years in actual training, design, implementation and evaluation of capacity development initiatives in various development and institutional contexts. He is an engineer, an MBA (majoring in operations management) and PhD in Organizations Development (specializing in Systems Dynamics). He is one of the developers of the world class CEFE (Competency-based Economies via Formation of Entrepreneurs) training method, now applied in 140 countries by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

Ed has worked in more than sixty five countries in East Asia, Far East, South Asia, the Pacific Rim Territories, Africa, the Middle East, East and Western Europe, and the United States. As trainer, consultant, and adviser to governments, NGOs, and international organizations, Ed has worked with ADB, UN agencies (UNIDO, UN-ESCWA, ILO, UNIFEM, UNRWA), US AID, MCC, Swiss Aid, World Bank among others. He worked as Team Leader/Deputy in Timor Leste (with World Bank), the Middle East (with ESCWA), Bangladesh and Turin (with ILO), Nepal (GIZ), Singapore (with Technonet Asia), Indonesia (with World Bank) and Hawaii (with The EastWest Centre ) and the University of the Philippines Institute for Small Scale Industries. He uses seven languages. Recently, he worked with the GIZ on SMME Young Consultants, associations, cooperatives and GIEs in Ouarzazate.

with ADBs CD works having worked with COSO in various staff consulting capacities (e.g., for staff training, e-Learning, e-Procurement and aid effectiveness); (b) implemented three internal and regional TNAs that enhanced existing ADB training offers; (c) to differentiate what can be provided on (via internet) and offline. Ed is a faculty of: ILO-Turin Center (Italy), South New Hampshire University (USA, PhD in Economics and OD) and (c) Mekong Institute (Thailand, Project Management and ASEAN Integration).
