prepared in early childhood degree programs are grounded in a child development knowledge base. They use their understanding of young childrens characteristics and needs, and of multiple interacting influences on childrens development and learning, to create an environment that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging for each child. (NAEYC, 2011) Brief Description of Evidence: The Erikson Self Study that I completed as part of my ECED 120 course gives an overview of Eriksons theory regarding the eight developmental stages a child progresses through development. This paper shows you each stage through your entire lifespan. Analysis of What I Learned: While compiling this paper, I researched Eriksons theory and related it my birth years to what I think my death would be. I learned the stages demonstrated by the each stage plays a major role in the development of personality and psychological skills. How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard: This artifact demonstrates my competence in recognizing the multiple stages and influences on childrens development and my ability to integrate this knowledge to meet the diverse characteristics and needs of the children. After doing this paper I can demonstrate my ability to supply multiple tools and supplies in order to create an environment which supports the varying developmental stages of the children, I am now able to do this because of my knowledge gained from completing this paper. I feel confident in my ability to recognize the different stages of development in order to create a healthy, supportive, and challenging environment for each of the children so each can progress through the stages without being hindered. The completion of this project has provided me with a better understanding of my own abilities as it relates to a childs development, and I feel confident in providing children in my classroom with developmentally appropriate materials and activities.
