FIGHT THE BEDROOM TAX

The Tories introduced the bedroom tax on the 1st April last year cutting 14% off housing benefit if a household has one spare bedroom and 25% for two bedrooms. More than 10 million people have being affected by the benefit cuts being implemented at the moment. Two thirds of all households affected are households with disabled people in them who have a spare room for their carer to stay in, or who for other health reasons have made alterations to their homes. Campaigns against the bedroom tax have been set up in several cities across Britain. They have managed to prevent evictions in many towns. In Scotland after a year of protests the Scottish government has been forced to banish the much hated tax, with an extra 15 million of payments to the poor tenants it affects. We support all local and national campaigns against benefit cuts.
