UM Minority Enrollment Increases 8.7 Percent

University of Maryland minority enrollment increased by 8.7 percent since last year,
during which overall campus enrollment grew less than one percent.
This university has taken a significant step forward, said university President Dr.
Wallace D. Loh. Our many efforts of recent years are beginning to produce the desired results.
Over the past five years, statistics display that the universitys minority enrollment has
enlarged from 1,540 students to 1,899 students, a 23.3 percent increase.
The university based the enrollment categories on self-reported student data. Below is a
breakdown of the minority enrollment increase:

The increase in minority students is a gratifying sight for the many students, faculty and
administrators who have worked for it, Dr. Loh said. We still have more to do. This is only the
beginning.
