Background Information: A registered medical technologist. She came in because a friend of hers was asking her if she knows the clinical indication of Glutathione IV, but because of her limited knowledge of drugs all she knows is that it is used for skin whitening. Response: Glutathione IV used as a supplement would promote overall functions of the body as it is one of the precursor in protein synthesis and serves as a cellular defense that allows the body to prevent and fight infections and diseases by boosting T-cells function. Having said that, there are specific approved regulatory uses or indications for Glutathione IV. When given intravenously, glutathione prevents anemia in kidney patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, prevents kidney problems after heart bypass surgery, treats Parkinsons disease and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, improving blood flow and decreasing clotting in individuals with atherosclerosis, treating diabetes and preventing toxic side effects of chemotherapy by using it as an adjunct in the treatment.
