Ethical Considerations
1. Citing the 12 Rights of the Patient, indicate 2 Rights that have been
violated in your duty, relate the violation and explain why is there an
ethical issue in it.
The ethical issue that I violated is the Right to every consideration of his
privacy concerning his own medical care program.
Because I was getting and copying the data of the patient for our
requirements without their knowing and without their consent. Also I didn’t
visit to their room and introduce myself in order to ask permission in
personal. I didn’t consider that what if other people saw the patient’s data
without my knowing. Creating a trusting environment by respecting patient
privacy encourages the patient to seek care and to be as honest as
possible during the course of a health care visit. So, as nurses, the
primary justification for protecting personal privacy is to protect the
interests of individuals.
The ethical issue that I violated is the Right to expect that all
circumstances and records pertaining to his case should be treated as
confidential.
Because I shared what I saw and discovered in the patient’s data of my
patient. I want to share my thoughts to them how I handle, give care and
doing procedure without errors to my patient. I want know their reactions
and opinions or suggestions. So that I’m aware and have an idea how to
handle my patient with confidence. I’m not aware that what if there is
someone else was listening our conversation about the patient that can
lead to danger and threatening the patient. If the confidentiality of this
information were not protected, trust in the physician-patient relationship
would be diminished. Patients would be less likely to share sensitive
information, which could negatively impact their care.
2. Cite at least 3 procedures done to your patient that required informed
consent, and explain, why is an informed consent play an important role in
these procedures or interventions.
a. Physical Assessment
This procedure must have informed consent.
- The patient must know what are you’re doing to him/her. Explain the
purpose and importance of procedure so that the patient can understand what
are you’re doing to his/her appearance and status. The patient also have an
idea that this procedure helps him/her to be aware and prevent from any
incidents and determine the general status of his/her health. It also gives a
chance to talk to them about any ongoing pain or symptoms that they
experiencing or any other health concerns that they might have. The goal of
informed consent is to assure patient autonomy.
c. Vital Signs
This procedure must have informed consent.
- Explain why this proceudre is important and the purpose. The patient must
know that monitoring the status help to determine which treatment protocols
to follow, provide critical information needed to make life-saving decisions,
and confirm feedback on treatments performed. The patient must understand
that this procedure is to detecting or monitoring medical problems. So that
they’re aware what are problems in their health and how to prevent it.
3. You were not able to go and duty and care for your patient in the Hospital
last Tuesday. What principle of Ethical Fidelity was applied so that duty
can be cancelled? Discuss your answer well.
