Rationale for lesson: Microscopes can be used when learning more advanced science skills

Learning outcomes: Students will navigate and complete the WebQuest

Assessment of student outcomes: Students will be assessed based on observation and completion of all tasks in the WebQuest

Related Foundations/Indiana Academic Standard: Process Standard: Perform investigations using appropriate tools and technologies that will extend the senses

Materials Needed: Computer Pencil Paper Microscope Lesson/Activity Presentation: Anticipatory set: Microscopes are needed to see incredibly small objects. Hold up a slide and ask the children if they can see whats on it. The answer would be no. Explain that with a microscope, objects that are tiny are enhanced so that we can see them. Let the students fiddle with the microscope before starting the WebQuest. Teaching procedures: Take the students to the computer lab or get the children signed on with a mobile computer lab. Instruct students to enter http://microscopes101.weebly.com/ into the browser. The students will have three tasks to complete and the teacher will have to approve each student after each task. One task includes sketching and labeling a microscope, hence the pencil and paper.

Leuthold2 Guided & independent practice: Discussion as a class can be used while the WebQuest is an independent activity. Closure: Students will receive a certificate of completion stating they are microscope masters. Since the students learned how to work a microscope on the Internet, they can try it in person if desired. Differentiated instruction: Students can be paired up if necessary for learning or behavioral needs.

Technology (if appropriate): Computers

Reflection on lesson: Yet to be determined.
