Where does this lesson fit in the topic/unit being taught?


This topic relates directly to the junior cycle curriculum for Classroom Based Assessment and
Assessment tasks. The main learning outcomes assessed by the Extended Experimental Investigation
are Nature of Science LO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7

Students will be assessed on CBA1 under the topic Chemical reactions


You will create a scientific hypothesis (Research Question).
Plan and carry out an experimental investigation to test your hypothesis.
Create and analyse (inspect) data.
Reflect (look back on) on the process with support/guidance from the teacher.
What prior knowledge do student have about this topic?
Students should have developed sufficient knowledge, skills and understanding over the course of
first and second year to undertake an EEI. As part of ongoing teaching, learning and assessment of
the learning outcomes for Junior Cycle Science, students should have opportunities to develop
inquiry and practical skills, including skills to manipulate and use laboratory equipment safely
