Repairs are still underway at the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge after two steel
tie rods and a crossbeam snapped off the bridge Tuesday evening. Caltrans said a
combination of high winds and traffic vibrations caused the cable to snap.
Crews are working to ensure the span is safe for motorists. There is no word yet as
to when the bridge will reopen.
About 280,000 motorists drive the span each weekday. Currently, all traffic is being
diverted to other bridges.
