Art Analysis Activity: Teacher Instructions: Place signs of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design around the room where visible. Display works of art that are going to be used for discussion. Have students begin at the center of the classroom. Have them walk toward the Element or Principle (the sign) that they believe is represented in the piece. From there, start a discussion as ask questions such as: What do you think the artist was trying to say by strongly using [fill in element or principle]? How does using [element/principle] in this piece make the viewers feel? What other elements or principles are used, but are not as obvious? What other elements or principles could the artist have used or not used? Also ask questions such as: What is the subject matter of this piece? What style of art is this piece?
