The masthead is important as although this is the brand of the magazine a significant amount of the lettering in covered and

the title of TRAINSPOTTING below is almost more prominent. This is because people will buy into the magazine if the film appeals to them, they may later associate this with the magazine itself and buy more copies. The main character (Ewan McGregor) in Trainspotting is the focus of this magazine as he is placed against a plain white background. I have noticed how eye contact is a common convention in film magazines; I believe this is because it captures the attention of an audience and draws readers into the product. The use of a mid shot allows room for other sub headings to fit in on either side of him without corrupting the main image. The advertisement for Sharon Stone has been placed on this specific magazine for its male appeal as Trainspotting is generally thought of as a film that is more popular to a male audience. The contrasting red/yellow colours create a bold statement much like the film the magazine is advertising
