AUDIENCE RESEARCH

For the Backstage Magazine, I think the target audience is teens (!3+)
upwards as it mostly outlines theatre and broadway for upcoming actors and
actresses. It features articles on the best places to boost your acting career
and where to work, implying it is targeted toward young adults in the acting
industry. Also targeted at fans of broadway, as it feautures information on new
plays, musicals and actors.

For Empire I think that the target audience is for teens and upward, and any
film-enthusiast.

COVER-EMPIRE

Ant-Man is in the centre of the cover,

looking directly to the reader. His
posture connotes power and
dominance as he is standing
confidently with his fists clenched.
This can also be seen as quite an
intimidating pose. The positioning is
clever as it grabs the readers
attention, Ant-Man is the feature
article.
Behind him is Ant-Man in a bold red
font, again drawing the readers
attention and advertising the featurearticle.
To each side of Ant-Man are
upcoming superhero movies in grey
and black, correlating with the Bold
yet simple colour scheme. These

CONTENTS- EMPIRE

The contents page is carefully laid out

into 3 columns of articles: Features in
one column and Regulars in two
significantly smaller articles. The
feature articles are in the first column
so that they will be the first to grab the
readers attention.
The colour scheme is the same as the
front page. Each title is in a bold red
font so it attracts the readers eye
first. The colours also are the same as
Antman's official costume, thus
relating to the fact it is a Superhero
edition.
In the top right-hand corner, theres a

EDITORS LETTER

On page 4, there is an editors letter.

The overall theme is minimalistic
and simple, reflecting the rest of the
magazines layout. It includes the
editors signature at the end of the
text, and also gives the audience a
good introduction to the magazine
and expectations of what to come.
The colours match the rest of the
magazine, with simple red black and
white. The language used is formal,
but is well-structured and easy to
read. This makes the audience feel

FEATURE ARTICLE ANALYSIS

The layout of the text is structured into columns and

fairly basic. However, the images overlap each other and
intentionally cut off space for extra text. This could be to
reflect the jumbled insane mind-set of not just the
Joker, but other villains featured in the film therefore
their photos are un-structured, slightly free-willed and all

line being Holy share-price surge! This appeals to
younger readers as it makes the text more fun to read,
and keeps engagement. The language also uses
rhetorical questions, challenging the reader to think of
their own opinions on the upcoming film, and makes
the article un-biased. Jargon associated with
Superhero films, such as Rivals and Protagonist
this keeps the article linked with the topic, and also

an image of the main characters, labelled
with their character names and the actors
portraying them. This allows a sneak peak
into what to expect from the cast- while
showing the designs of their overall look.

his costume, and a status between the
reader and Batman himself.
The font is mainly black, to fit in the
villainous atmosphere that is associated
with Suicide Squad, and also with the
Batman series itself. Gotham is a dark
city, and Batman is a fairly dark
character, so the font links with this.
