Content and Achievement Standards


Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. Reading and Notating Music Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts (i.e. dance)

Class Goals and Objectives


Students will be able to sing Seasons of Love with minimal piano support. Students will be able to sing and dance all of Footloose with no note or rhythm errors and few dance prompts. Students will be able to sing all of Joseph except One more Angel by memory. Most students will be able to read and dictate all eighth note level compound meter patterns at a slow tempo

Special Materials
White board, piano

Procedures
1. WU a. Breath Exercise (In 4 out 8, then in 2 out 8, add 4 each time) b. Lip trill 5 note scale c. Hip hip ho ho d. Paw, Paw, Paw e. Love Scale from Seasons f. Scale chords 2. Run Choreography to Footloose at a slow tempo. Ask students to focus on clean choreo and lyrics a. Clean 3. Run Footloose with tape. 4. Give students 30 seconds to get chairs. 5. Have students read rhythmic exercise on the board. a. Go over any problem areas breaking down patterns as needed b. Use pat, clap, snap pattern to help read patterns. 6. Have students Echo Translate Compound meter patterns 7. Do a four measure rhythmic composition using the compound meter patterns already learned. Write the appropriate patterns on the board for student reference. 8. Have students trade compositions with a partner. Give them a few minutes to discuss and evaluate each others rhythms 9.
