Re: Work Plan and Cost Estimate to Develop a Manual on How to Set a Table for a
Formal Dinner

Dear Dr. Jackson,

As you requested, I am pleased to provide this work plan and cost estimate to develop a
manual on How to Set a Table for a Formal Dinner. On the basis of our recent
discussion, the following proposal includes information on my understanding of the
required scope of work and my work plan, as well as a cost estimate and my
qualifications to write this manual.

Scope of Work
I understand that my scope of work will include the following:
Explaining which dinnerware will be necessary
Explaining how to choose a centerpiece
Explaining where each utensil should be placed before guests arrive
Explaining the order in which cutlery should be used and why
Explaining how utensils and dinnerware should transition throughout the meal
I will not explain how to cook the food or clean the dinnerware. I will also not include
any cost estimate on the tablecloth, china, utensils or food because this varies.

Work Plan
I will complete six tasks as I work towards completing the How to Set a Table for a
Formal Dinner.

Task 1: Choosing dinnerware
I will explain which pieces of dinnerware you should use depending on how many
courses will be served and the dishes being served.

Task 2: Choosing a Centerpiece
I will explain what to look for when choosing a centerpiece for the table.

Task 3: Setting the Table
I will explain how to arrange the table, including tablecloth, place mats, name cards and
centerpiece.

Task 4: Illustrating and Explaining Where Utensils Should Be Placed
I will take pictures of where each utensil should be placed. I will also explain their
purpose and why they are placed there.

Task 5: Explaining How Dinnerware Should Transition
I will explain how pieces should be removed from the table and how new pieces should
be placed on the table as the meal progresses.

Task 6: Writing the Instructions Down
I will take notes as I set the table, which I will use to write step-by-step instructions on
how to set a formal dinner table.

Schedule
Because I can set a dinner table rather quickly, the photography portion of this manual
and the actual execution of setting the table will take approximately 1 hour. Downloading
the pictures and writing the text should take one week. That will leave a week remaining
for me to revise and rewrite the manual. The Gantt chart below illustrates the length of
time devoted to individual tasks.

Cost Estimate
As a student enrolled in TECM 2700, I may print four multiple page documents in color.
I may also have use of the binding machine. Therefore, I will have no charges related to
printing this manual. I already own the materials needed to set the table; therefore, I will
not have any further charges.
