Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact

Rationale/Reflection
INTASC Standard:
Standard #5: Application of Content

The teacher understands how to connect concepts and use differing
perspectives to engage learners in critical thinking, creativity, and
collaborative problem solving related to authentic local and global issues.
Brief Description of Evidence:
As part of my EDUC 210 Planning Elementary Education Classroom course
during the spring semester of 2014, I worked with peers to create a full
lesson plan. We worked together to come up with a bug art project for
children to do. We had the children create their own bugs on a step stool
and a wooden box, which was in turn sold at an art auction at the school.

Analysis of What I Learned:
I learned how to create a detailed lesson plan and art project for the
children, as well as to implement to the lesson plan with the children. The
one struggle we had was with the children not just putting their finger on
the stool, they wanted to actually draw a big bug and I also learned you
need be patient with the children as you are doing the lesson plan.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the INTASC Standard:
My competence in this standard is proven by my ability to create lesson
plans that will get the children thinking and that will make them use their
creativity. As well as using their problem solving skills in the environment with
global insect issues.
