For how many posts is a candidate
eligible to apply?
A candidate can apply for a maximum of two posts in order of
preference.
For instance a candidate with a Graduate Degree in
Mechanical Engineering maybe eligible for 6 posts i.e.
AEE(Drilling), AEE(Cementing), AEE(Mechanical),
AEE(Production), Transport Officer and Materials
Management Officer. But he has to choose any two posts to
apply.
However, candidates opting for the posts of AEE (Drilling)/
AEE (Cementing) as their first preference can apply for two
more posts as a second and third preference.
Also, those candidates with a PG Degree in Geophysics with
Maths/ Physics in B.Sc. can apply for the posts of
Geophysicist(Surface), Geophysicist(Wells) and
AEE(Reservoir)
2 Eligibility
I have a qualification of
B.Tech.(Information Technology).
Am I eligible to apply?
No. Candidates not possessing the specified qualifications but
having qualifications which may be equivalent to that
prescribed in the advertisement are not eligible to apply.

I have a qualification of AMIE. Am I
eligible to apply?
No. Candidates not possessing the specified qualifications but
having qualifications which may be equivalent to that

No. Only Candidates possessing a graduate degree in
Mechanical/ Chemical/ Petroleum/ Applied Petroleum
engineering are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant
Executive Engineer(Production).
6 Eligibility
Is a qualification acquired through
distance learning/ correspondence
acceptable for applying for a position
in ONGC?
Candidates possessing qualifications acquired through the
distance learning mode/ correspondence can apply provided
their qualifications are recognised by the relevant statutory
bodies for employment to posts and services under the Central
Government. However, for the post of HR Executive, the
qualification of Post Graduate Diploma in PM/IR/Labour
Welfare should be a full time course of minimum 2 years
duration.

after diploma in engineering. How
should I calculate my percentage of
marks?
Percentage of marks are to be calculated as per University/
Institution Rules.

eligible to apply?
You can apply provided your percentage of marks calculated
as per University/ Institution Rules are as per the prescribed
eligiblity criteria.
9 Eligibility
In my college/ university, only 7th
and 8th semester marks are
considered for calculation of
percentage of marks. Will I be
eligible to apply?
The percentage of marks is to be calculated as per University/
Institution Rules. If it meets the prescribed eligiblity criteria
then the candidate is eligible to apply

10 Eligibility
My College/ Institution/ University
does not give the percentage of
marks. It only awards Letter
Grades/CGPA/OGPA/DGPA etc.
How should I fill the percentage of
marks in the online application
column?
Kindly obtain a certificate/ proof of conversion from your
College/ Institution/ University on the conversion formula to
be adopted for converting Letter Grades/ CGPA/ OGPA/
DGPA to percentage and convert your Letter Grades/ CGPA/
OGPA/ DGPA to percentage of marks as per this formula.
This certificate/ proof of conversion needs to be submitted at
the time of interview in case qualified for the same.
11 Eligibility
I have completed a 5 years Integrated
course (B Tech and M Tech) in
Mechanical Engineering. Am I
eligible ?
A candidate is eligible to apply if he/ she possesses the
prescribed qualification as mentioned in the advertisement. So
he/ she should possess BE/BTech in cases where a Graduate
degree in the specified branch of engineering is the prescribed
qualification irrespective of having/ not having a higher
qualification of MTech.
12 Eligibility
I have a Dual degree of both a B.Tech
and an M.Tech. Am I eligible to
apply?
A candidate is eligible to apply if he/ she possesses the
prescribed qualification as mentioned in the advertisement. So
he/ she should possess BE/BTech in cases where a Graduate
degree in the specified branch of engineering is the prescribed
qualification irrespective of having/ not having a higher
qualification of MTech.
13 Eligibility
I am in my final year/ semester. Am I
eligible to apply?
Students in the final semester/ final year of the qualifying
course of study may also apply provided their final results are
declared on or before their scheduled date of interview
(tentatively scheduled in the month of August 2014). The
eligiblity of the candidate is also subject to securing the
minimum percentage of the marks in his degree after
declaration of the result.
14 Eligibility
I am a Physically Challenged person.
Can I apply under Unreserved
category for posts which have not
been reserved for PWD candidates?
No. A PWD candidate can only apply for posts which have
been identified for the the specific type of disability in the
advertisement
15 Eligibility
I am a Hearing Impaired peson. Can I
apply for the post of Medical Officer?
No. A PWD candidate can only apply for posts which have
been identified for the the specific type of disability in the
advertisement
16 Eligibility
Is there any restriction on number of
attempts in ONGC Examinations?
There is no restriction on the number of attempts in ONGC's
GT Examination provided other eligiblity criteria are met.
17 Process What are the modes of applying?
All applicants have to register online only and fill in their
details in the online application form. A registration slip will
be generated on successful registration. Take a printout of this
registration slip and keep it in a safe place. An e-mail and an
SMS will also be sent to the registered e-mail id as well as to
the mobile phone no. intimating that you have registered your
candidature. The candidate can also view his/ her data by
logging in with either a combination of his Registration ID and
date of birth or email id and date of birth. After logging in he
can also take a print out of his registration slip.

18 Process
What are the steps that I need to take
before applying online?
Step 1: Read the advertisement carefully
Go through the full advertisement published in 'Employment
News'/'Rozgar Samachar' of 22 - 28 March, 2014 edition to
check your eligiblity for the posts advertised. The same is also
available on ONGC's website i.e. www.ongcindia.com.
Step 2: Fee payment:
Download Bank Challan slip from the link on the home page.
Make fee payment of correct denomination at any SBI
branch.
Obtain Candidates copy and ONGCs copy of the bank
challan from the bank, duly acknowledged/ receipted. Please
make sure that the journal no given by the bank is clearly
mentioned in ONGCs copy of the Challan slip. No
overwriting or tampering will be allowed.
Step 3: Scan the following Documents:
i. Scan your photograph (not more than 50 kb, jpg or jpeg
format only)
ii. Scan your signature and (not more than 20 kb, jpg or jpeg
format only)
Keep the soft copies of these documents handy before
applying online. The online application requires applicants to
upload these documents.

What is the fee amount that I am
required to pay?
Fee details are mentioned in the detailed advertisement. Please
read the advertisement carefully.
Gen/OBC: Rs. 500
SC/ST/PWD: Rs. 100
Note: The candidature of applicants submitting fee of lesser
amount or depositing fee through any mode other than the
prescribed method, will be rejected.

Do I need to submit my fee before
applying?
While filling the online application, all candidates are required
to provide details of their fee payment. These details include
Journal No., Branch code etc. which will be provided by the
bank after making the payment. It is therefore, important to
make the fee payment before applying.
21 Process
I am unable to choose a post of my
choice.
Based on your age, essential qualification and other details the
system is designed to give the posts for which you are eligible.
In case it is not displaying the post of your choice, you have
either entered incorrect data or you are not eligible for that
particular post. Hence kindly fill in correct details and check
the advertisement for eligibility.
22 Process
I belong to SC/ST/OBC category.
Can I apply for posts for which there
is no vacancy under the reserved
category e.g. under SC category there
is no vacancy for the post of
AEE(Civil)
A candidate can apply for all posts for which he is eligible. In
case there is no vacancy for him in either of the reserved
category he can still apply provided he meets the eligibility
criteria prescribed for General Category. Thus no relaxation in
age shall be provided to him for such posts. Also he shall be
considered for interview/ final selection as per the General
Category merit and not as per SC or ST or OBC category
merit.

23 Process
Do I need an email address for filling
in an on-line application?
Possessing a valid e-mail id is a must before filling the online
application form. It will also be useful for receiving e-mail
updates/alerts relating to the GT recruitment process from
ONGC . Make sure that you fill in the correct the e-mail id
(without any typographical errors) and the id is active for at
least 1 year. ONGC shall not be responsible for any mails
bouncing back or mails being sent to spam folder etc.
24 Process
I have entered the wrong Email-
Id/Address/Date of Birth/Phone
number and I want to change it. Is it
possible?
Data once saved and submitted cannot be changed at a later
stage. Please register again with the correct EmailId.
25 Process
My current residential address is
temporary and is likely to change, so
which address should I provide?
You may provide your temporary address for the time being.
However, please make sure that you have provided your
correct permanent address, a correct e-mail id and a correct
landline/ mobile no as well in order to avoid any loss in
receiving official communication.

Are there any file size restrictions
when uploading my documents
online?
Yes. The scanned copy of the photograph should not be more
than 50kb and the scanned copy of the signature should not be
more than 20kb. Also the scanned copies should necessarily be
in either jpeg or jpg format. Please also ensure that a recent
passport size colour photograph with a white background is
uploaded

I am unable to upload the scanned
copy of the photograph/ signature
Check if the file type is .jpg or .jpeg. Any other file type will
not be accepted. Also check if the file size is of the desired
length. Please also note that the file name should necessarily
be in small alphabets i.e. PHOTO.JPG is not acceptable but
photo.jpg will be acceptable
28 Process
What documents should I keep for
future reference?
A copy of your registration slip, bank challan, admit card and
interview call letter (if applicable) needs to be maintained till
the end of the recruitment process

Do I need to send the print out of
registration slip to ONGC ?
No documents are to be sent to ONGC. However, your are
strongly advised to keep a printout of your registration slip for
future reference.

What should I do if I do not receive
my admit card before the exam?
No hard copies of the Admit card/ Interview Call Letters will
be sent to the candidates. Candidates are advised to download
the Admit Card/ Interview Call Letter from the link available
on our website at that time

What should I do, in case the details
in the admit card differ from those in
my application form?
On receipt of the Admit card, please do verify your Name,
Registration number, Test City, Test centre, Photograph,
Signature etc. In case of any discrepancy, you can write to us

I am working with a Central / State
Govt / PSU. Do I need to apply
through proper channel / produce
NOC ?
Candidates working with a Central/ State Govt / PSU are
required to produce NOC at the time of interview failing which
they shall not be interviewed.

Im a departmental candidate. Do I
still need to submit the registration
fee?
Yes, departmental candidates would also be required to deposit
the applicable registration fee through bank challan. However,
the same would be reimbursable.

online application, can I take it at a
later stage?
Yes. You can take a print - out of the Registration slip at any
time before the Admit cards are issued. You can view your
Registration Slip by providing your Registration Number and
Date of Birth.

Will I be able to view my application
after submitting the same online? Can
I make changes in the online
application?
Yes, you can view your application by logging in using your
Registration Number and Date of Birth. But, NO changes can
be made to this online application except during the Editing
period. Further during the editing period, only the Journal No
and the Test City can be changed.

How do I know that my on-line
registration is successful? Do I get
any acknowledgement upon
submission of the on-line form?
Upon successful completion of the on-line registration, a
message appears on the computer screen stating that your
registration is successful and giving further instructions on
how to take a print out of your Registration Slip. You can take
a print out of the same and keep it as a record.
