Calendar skills:

What is the date today? E.g. Today is Monday the 16th of November 2009.
How many Mondays in this month?
What date will it be next Monday?
How many days till the weekend?

Morning 7:45am – 9:00am: Literacy


Reading:
Read a book of your choice to your child.
Use the bookmark in your child’s reading folder to discuss the story or features of
the book.
Response: Choose a response that relates to the book you read. Help your child
with their choice.
• Orally retell the story in your own words
• Paint / draw your favourite part of the book and tell why it is your favourite
part
• Retell the story by acting it out
• Make a model of your favourite character
• Design a new front cover for the book
• Write a different ending for the story
• Find out more facts about something in the book (books, internet)

Writing
Handwriting – choose your favourite part of the story you read this morning. In your
neatest handwriting copy 2 sentences out. Remember capital letters, shape, size
and direction of the letters.

Writer’s Workshop
Choose one of the options below to write about:
1. Use this sentence starter for creative writing – “If I was the teacher of my
class for the day, I would.......”
2. Write a recount about your weekend.

Parent note:
Help your child use spelling strategies (sound/stretch it out, use a dictionary, have a
go) to spell words rather than telling them directly.

Snack break & play

Mental Math
Count forward up to 50 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
Count backwards from 50 by 1’s and 10’s.

Work at your own pace through the different levels.

week. Design a personal emblem/logo using the colour of your day. Your emblem
should reflect what is important to you (family, friends, celebrations, favourite
