TV VIOLIENCE: DOES IT CAUS REAL-LIFE MAYHEM?

In TV violence: does it cause real-life mayhem? Susan R. Lamson argues that television is the
leading cause for violent crimes in America. We learn that exposure to television is related to
half the homicides, rape, assault and other forms of violence committed in the United States.
Viewers develop a tolerance for the violent acts so media air more and more programs
containing violent material, making them profitable. Also statistics in the report showed that
there are more than 100 violent acts per hour and children average nearly four to elven hours
of TV making it their reality. Physiologists state, that violent programs make children addicted-
like a drug which they cant get enough of. They later grow up to be more aggressive and
vicious, since violence is taught to be normal in society. Lamson also mentions to write to
network executives, letting them know how consumers feel about the mayhem televised. To
conclude, its our responsibility to annihilate televised violence which seems to doom the future
of our society.
