My reaction to Is Sex All Matters? by Joyce Garity
The author of this article gave shelter to a girl of age 17 named Elaine . Elaine
was pregnant and had another child; she did not know who was the father of the child she
was expecting. Worst of all is that today 's teens are not educated on these issues in the
same way that Elaine did not protected because she thought it was not something
romantic. In my opinion condoms is not about something that should be romantic or not;
it is something to protect you from sexual diseases and to prevent pregnancy. We are
influenced by society, by culture and mostly from what we perceive . Most commercials
or magazines give or send a sexual message to people. These ads people to believe in
their fantasies and promises. If you do not use certain pair of jeans, you will not look
sexy. If you do not wear a particular perfume, you will not have a social life. Some ads
show a man chasing a half-naked woman on a beach: In this scene they lovingly embrace
and kiss. Ads like this make us forget about the realities of having sex and the fact that
one can get a disease or get pregnant. Statistics on persons having a sexually transmitted
disease is high and more and more young people are having pregnancies; children that are
caring for other children. They should teach sex education to duelve into these issues and
educate young people not to make wrong decisions.
