DIGITAL NATIVES, DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS

Every day, the world gives new technologies that make our work easier and also,
it makes the learning process easier for the students.
It is difficult for some teachers to teach in these days because the students have
different point of view about the world around them. In every school, teachers have a
big challenge because they have to create new methodologies and strategies for their
students.
In one hand, Digital Natives refers to the children who were born at the end of
the 20th century and the children who are born in the 21th century. They are called
Digital Natives because they were born in the age in which the Internet is the main tool
that every person uses. For kids born in this stage, it makes easier for they to learn
better and also they have the ability to use a computer perfectly. Some experts
believed that the brain of the new born kids are different from the brain of adults, but
the true is that these children receive the information really faster, and also they prefer
the graphics and the multi-tasks.
In the other hand, Digital Immigrants refers to the teachers or people who were not
born in the age of the computer. For some teachers, it has been too difficult to
understand and apply the new technologies. They also prefer to read books rather
than use a computer and look for the information they need.

There are two main aspects that the teachers have to take into account in order
to create a good learning in the classroom; these aspects are legacy and future. The
former refers to the change of methodologies that the teacher must use in his/her
classes. He/she has to take into consideration that the learning process is different in
this days, using the appropriate methodology is really important and the teacher has to
motivate his/her students and so they will have a meaningful learning process. The
latter refers to apply the new strategies in the school focusing in the learning of the
students and the way in which they can use the new technologies as part of their
learning process.
If the teacher has to succeed in the classroom, he/she has to create new
methodologies which motivate the students in order to create a good environment in
the class. It is difficult to choose the best one, but it just takes inspiration and
dedication for creating the best one. Another important point is adapt the materials or
activities according with the Digital Natives that the teacher has in the classroom, and
also the teacher can create new games in order to adapt the new technologies in the
class.
It seems difficult to change the paradigms of the teaching process of the past, but it is
possible to do it. The teacher has to take into account that the world is changing with
the time and sometimes he/she has to change his/her paradigms. Students demand to
use the technologies in the classroom and the teacher must to accept this new
challenge.
